You will need to enter the user name (iowfhs) and the current password, in order to search these indexes. The password is changed in February each year and is given in the current Journal sent to paid up Members with full membership, or available as an eJournal on this website.
The index has been derived from notices published in the following newspapers :
Isle of Wight Observer 1852 - 1900 (first published in Ryde on 25 Sep 1852, and therefore heavily weighted towards Ryde events) (sourced from British Library Newspapers Online / Findmypast)
Isle of Wight County Press (published in Newport) 1901 - 1907 and occasionally thereafter (work in progress)
The Indexing project is a continuing project, and not all announcements have yet been transcribed. There are some gaps in the coverage of the IoW Observer (i.e. certain editions are missing from the BL Newspapers Online site), and only a few IoW County Press announcements have been transcribed.
Click Full Coverage to see which editions have had their notices transcribed.
Only notices for events which occurred on the Isle of Wight appear in this Index. For events which occurred elsewhere, and which feature people connected with the Isle of Wight, see our Strays databases
